Original large-sized Goebel / Hummel Nativity Set #214, marked West Germany and dated to 1951. This is the highly sought-after early production version with the classic matte glaze and hand-painted detail that made these sets famous among collectors. This is the larger scale version, not the smaller later sets. Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, Three Kings, Shepherd, Angel, Donkey, Ox, and additional figures as shown. This is a beautiful vintage set with honest age and collector-typical wear. Donkey has flaws to the ears (see photos). Fine crazing present under the glaze on several pieces, consistent with age and early production Goebel porcelain. Angel appears to be from a slightly different production year but matches the set well in style. No cracks or repairs observed outside of the donkeys ears. Paint and details remain vibrant and display beautifully. Crazing is common and expected in early 1950s Goebel porcelain and does not detract from display or collector value. These early #214 sets are becoming harder to find in complete groupings, especially the large format.
