EXTREMELY RARE WHITE OVERGLAZE HUMMEL #127 “DOCTOR” FIGURINE. It’s titled “Doctor” (#127) and depicts a young boy dressed as a doctor standing over a broken doll. The German title for this figurine was “Puppendoktor”, which translates to “doll repairer”. This early figurine was designed by sculptor Arthur Moeller in 1939. What makes this figurine ultra scarce is that it’s finished in white overglaze, sometimes referred to as an unpainted sample by collectors. Very few unpainted examples of early Hummel figurines are known to exist. In fact, I can’t find documentation of another single example of this figurine in white overglaze. It might be one-of-a-kind. This rare figurine stands about 5 1/8″ tall and the round base measures 2 1/4″ in diameter. The top of the base has the incised M. The underside of the base has the impressed mold number “127”, but no other Goebel markings. It’s guaranteed to be an original white overglaze variation. Condition of this Hummel figurine is GOOD. Upon very close inspection with a hand lens, I noticed that the head has been expertly repaired at the neck. Most likely it was damaged during production and never painted because of the defect. A worker likely salvaged the piece and repaired it. I don’t see any other chips, cracks, or fleabites. Despite this nearly invisible flaw, this scarce figurine looks fantastic and displays beautifully. It would make a fine addition to the collection of a serious Hummel enthusiast. Please take a close look at the many photos I’ve provided and judge condition for yourself. As I mentioned earlier, this piece in white overglaze is undocumented and VERY RARE.
