Hummel HUM 109/II Happy Traveler Globe Trotter 8 TMK-6 W. Bring home one of Hummel’s most beloved classics with this Goebel M. Hummel HUM 109/II “Happy Traveler”, also widely known by collectors as Globe Trotter. This is the desirable larger version, standing approximately 8 inches tall. The cheerful young traveler, carrying his umbrella under one arm while singing with hands tucked in his pockets, was originally modeled by Arthur Moeller in 1938 and remains one of the most recognizable Hummel designs. HUM 109/II – Happy Traveler (Globe Trotter). Approximately 8 inches tall. Original painter’s initials on the underside. No chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs observed. Offered for sale is a RARE and hard to find U. Zone TMK1 Crown Mark Merry Wanderer HUM # 11/0 with BOTTOM EYE LASHES. Occupied Zone is where Hummels were manufactured during WWII after Hitler’s regime shut down the Goebel factory and commanded them to manufacture porcelain components for radios in support of the war effort. On the quartered base underside is printed’U. Zone Germany’ in the top left quadrant, an incised crown mark in the lower left quadrant, mold number 11/0 in the lower right quadrant, and 49 4.9 in the upper right quadrant. This tells us the piece was painted by a master painter on September 4,1949 (Europeans write the dates with the day first, then the month; opposite of how we write it in the US). Look closely and you’ll notice the first digit that looks like a 9 is actually a 4 since that digit is open at the top. Though WWII ended in 1945, the. United States, along with other Allied forces, formally ended their military occupation of West Germany on May 5, 1955, when they declared an end to the occupation. They also continued some level of Hummel manufacturing in the U. Zone well after the war ended. This figurine was molded by master sculptor Arthur Möeller in 1935. It depicts a happy-go-lucky boy with a travel bag in his left hand, and an umbrella on his right shoulder, setting out to make his mark in the world; which he most certainly did. He is one of the most beloved Hummel figurines of all time. As you know, there are very few surviving TMK1 U. Zone Hummels, that’s why they are so highly sought after. Original large-sized Goebel / Hummel Nativity Set #214, marked West Germany and dated to 1951. This is the highly sought-after early production version with the classic matte glaze and hand-painted detail that made these sets famous among collectors. This is the larger scale version, not the smaller later sets. Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, Three Kings, Shepherd, Angel, Donkey, Ox, and additional figures as shown. This is a beautiful vintage set with honest age and collector-typical wear. Donkey has flaws to the ears (see photos). Fine crazing present under the glaze on several pieces, consistent with age and early production Goebel porcelain. Angel appears to be from a slightly different production year but matches the set well in style. No cracks or repairs observed outside of the donkeys ears. Paint and details remain vibrant and display beautifully. Crazing is common and expected in early 1950s Goebel porcelain and does not detract from display or collector value. These early #214 sets are becoming harder to find in complete groupings, especially the large format.
