Offered is a vintage four-piece lot of Goebel M. Hummel porcelain figural lamp bases, consisting of two matching examples of HUM 44/A “Culprits” and two matching examples of HUM 44/B Out of Danger. The 44/A design depicts a young boy who has climbed an apple tree while a playful dog waits below. The coordinating 44/B design depicts a young girl seated safely in a flowering tree with a dog looking up from the base. These companion designs were produced by Goebel from artwork associated with Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel. Collector references identify 44/A as “Culprits” and 44/B as Out of Danger. Each lamp is hand-painted in muted brown, blue, red, green and cream tones and includes finely modeled details such as tree bark, apples or flowers, rustic fencing and an animated dog. All four are marked on the underside with the blue Goebel W. Germany factory mark, and the model information is impressed into the porcelain. Two Goebel HUM 44/A boy-and-dog lamp bases. Two Goebel HUM 44/B girl-and-dog lamp bases. Four porcelain bases total. They do not include shades, harps, finials, bulbs, complete sockets, cords or wiring. Three retain brass-colored threaded mounting fittings at the top. One appears to be missing its brass fitting and has only the white threaded mounting portion remaining. No electrical testing has been performed. Each base measures approximately 9 inches tall to the top of the existing collar, based on published measurements for comparable bare lamp bases. Complete examples may be listed elsewhere as taller because sellers sometimes include electrical sockets, harps or shades in their measurements. Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related surface wear, dust or soiling, light marks, discoloration around the bases, underside wear and visible glaze crazing. The lamp-mounting hardware is incomplete and varies among the four pieces. From visual inspection, the principal figures, dogs and major tree sections appear substantially intact. Because these designs contain numerous delicate projecting details-including fingers, ears, flower tips, apples and small branches-buyers should carefully enlarge and examine all photographs. Photographs form an important part of the condition description. No shades, electrical components or accessories beyond the pieces shown are included. These would make an attractive coordinated display, restoration project, replacement-piece group or addition to a Goebel and M. Please note: These are genuine Goebel porcelain lamp bases, but they are incomplete and are not being represented as safe, wired or operational lamps. Model: HUM 44/A and HUM 44/B.
